June 19 - June 25
The weeks are starting to run together, so technically this is moving into week seven.
We decided to change things up a bit from our plans and instead of Half Moon Bay we stayed in Vallejo. Now if you know anything about Vallejo you are probably wondering why. The main reason is how close it is to San Francisco (not many close options for an RV and the chance for some roller coaster time at Six Flags (www.sixflags.com/discoverykingdom). Right off of I-80 is an RV spot called Tradewinds (http://www.tradewindsrvpark.net/). Now it isn't that great, but for $35 a night didn't expect much. The spots are very narrow (so don't plan to lounge outside), the interstate traffic is loud, and someone stole our gas can. But laundry was very handy and cheap and T-mobile service worked well.
Monday after getting settled in we drove down to Berkeley. Walked a bit around town and campus.
Tuesday after morning work, we headed off to six flags. Nick hates rides, but having a place to walk around was awesome (we have not been getting the walking in like we do at home) and they had beer. Turns out that weekdays have no crowds and Letitia was able to ride the roller coasters multiple times. Including the Superman one with just one other person. We got seven miles of waking in and a fun day.
Wednesday, Letitia went back to six flags (the season pass was cheaper than two days, plus includes the other parks if we make it to those towns this year) while Nick went to Oakland and worked. Lines still short and within two hours got a full days of excitement in.
Thursday we headed to the city. Drove into town. Nick had lunch with a co-worker and Letitia checked out Britex Fabrics (www.britexfabrics.com). Later we met backed up and explored more of the city. Lots of walking and little work stops. Found a couple of places for drinks, including Smuggler's Cove (http://www.smugglerscovesf.com/). This place has amazing tiki drinks and a great atmosphere. Since we needed some time to drive home, we went and saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
Friday was work, golf, and cleaning. Took an evening stroll in Benicia. A very charming town.
Saturday we took the Bart into San Francisco. Had lunch and checked out pride. We then went to dinner in Oakland.
Sunday we got up early to head to the Pride parade. Originally we were going to head to Santa Cruz on Sunday, but wanted to take the opportunity to see the parade while we were in town. We planned on taking the 10am ferry into the city, but we didn't make the cut off and had to wait to the 11:30 ferry. The parade was still going strong. It was great to see so many people at the event. We made a full day of it. Some friends from Denver were in town (Heather & Brian) so we met up with them for a few hours. Such a fun day.
