Santa Rosa
Week five and into week six (June 11-June 19) we headed a little west and spent some time in Santa Rosa (Sonoma County). We stayed at the Sonoma County Fair Grounds RV park. (http://www.sonomacountyfair.com/rv-park.php) It is really just a big gravel parking lot with some a few trees, but full hookups and plenty of room when there is not an event going on. The beginning of the week the place was fairly empty, but a country music festival came to town for the weekend and every spot in the park was sold out. Temperatures reached into the 100s and caused some problems (power outages and some bars we wanted to check out had no A/C), but we survived. We did a little more exploring around the area. Drove back to Napa on a different road to see the scenery. Had a quick visit to San Rafael. Spent a day walking around the charming town of Healdsburg.
In Healdsburg we had lunch at Sonoma Cider Taproom & Restaurant. They had a great selection of cider's and we each tried a flight. We then walked to Stephen & Walker winery (http://www.trustwine.com) where we had some amazing wine and a great conversation with the guy behind the counter. We continued to explore the town and stopped one more place for some wine, but with the increasing heat drinking reds wasn't as much fun.
In Santa Rosa we got the chance to explore downtown. We kicked off the visit by finding the local American Outlaws group (USA National Soccer Team Fan Group) and watched the USA versus Mexico game. We then headed to find some dinner and came across a fun Sushi place called Haku Sushi. We ate there twice and really enjoyed the roll that came to the table on fire (https://hakusushi518.eat24hour.com/). We also had the chance to take a break from wine and enjoy some beer at an Irish pub and at the Russian River Brewing Company. We enjoyed some pasta at Riviera (www.rivieraristorante.net) and pizza downtown while the locals watched basketball (guess they were all excited about the local team and the championship game).
The location was great. We were able to bike to the downtown and stock up with a Petsmart, Trader Joes, and Target just 5 min away. Letitia's bike did get a flat tire at the very end and that put a stop on the biking around. There was much more to do and the week went by pretty quickly.
